Bath Abbey

Bath Abbey

Magnificent Gothic abbey church, renowned for its fan vaulting and angel-adorned west front.
Bath Abbey is a striking Perpendicular Gothic church that dominates the city’s central square. Rebuilt in the 16th century on earlier monastic foundations, it is famed for its fan-vaulted ceiling, luminous stained glass and the unusual ‘Jacob’s Ladder’ sculptures of angels climbing the west front. The abbey has long been a place of worship and civic ceremony. Visitors can explore its airy nave, memorials and, on selected tours, climb the tower for commanding views over Bath’s rooftops and surrounding hills.
